"My Foolish Heart" Review & Giveaway

With everything going on lately, I haven't had much time for reading. I download all of the free Kindle books with hope that someday, life will slow down and I will actually get some uninterrupted quiet time. (Wishful thinking, I know...)

Thankfully, with a deadline, I was able to tell my kids that this was 'work' and they had to leave me alone long enough to read. My Foolish Heart was so good, I didn't put it down until I was done!

About the book:

My Foolish HeartUnknown to her tiny town of Deep Haven, Isadora Presley spends her nights as Miss Foolish Heart, the star host of a syndicated talk radio show. Millions tune in to hear her advice on dating and falling in love, unaware that she’s never really done either. Issy’s ratings soar when it seems she’s falling in love on-air with a caller. A caller she doesn’t realize lives right next door.

Caleb Knight served a tour of duty in Iraq and paid a steep price. The last thing he wants is pity, so he hides his disability and moves to Deep Haven to land his dream job as the high school football coach. When his beautiful neighbor catches his eye, in a moment of desperation he seeks advice from My Foolish Heart, the show that airs before his favorite sports broadcast.

Before he knows it, Caleb finds himself drawn to the host—and more confused than ever. Is his perfect love the woman on the radio . . . or the one next door?

My thoughts:

I thoroughly enjoyed My Foolish Heart. It is probably one of the best contemporary fiction books I have read, well since I read my last Susan May Warren book, Happily Ever After. I am now convinced that I have to buy the rest of the Deep Haven Series.

I know, I am a sucker for a uniform, but the fact that Caleb was a Soldier made me like him right away. Both Caleb and Issy were great and so real, it was almost like you could live next door.

Since I grew up in a small(ish) town, it almost made me homesick to read about the community - something that you don't always find in larger places. I miss that.

My Foolish Heart was a fun and easy read, yet with depth and character. Both Caleb and Issy have their share of things to deal with - hurt, pride, fear and they bring you along with them on their journey.

I love Susan's writing style and how she makes you feel like you are a part of what is going on. She writes a great story and I was kind of sad when I finished it. I can't wait for the next one!

  1. I grew up in a small town, I miss that everyone knew me as a kid and I could go anywhere and not worry someone was going to hurt me, know I hardly let my children play out in the yard with out me outside watching. I want to read this book because when I met my husband I was his listener on the local radio. I fell in love with the DJ also.

  2. I grew up in a small town. What do I miss about it? Not much. Glad to move far, far away. I like the small town atmosphere though, and we have chosen an even smaller community to raise our kids in.

  3. I grew up in a smallish town. While I didn't know everyone I knew quite a few people. It's been a few years since I lived there but when I go back I still run into people I know. It's fun!

  6. I grew up in Beloit, Wisconsin, population about 20K at that time, I think. I walked to elementary (4 blocks) and middle school (12 blocks). What I miss most, though, is the way my friends and I could run around the neighborhood or ride our bikes until dark and after in the summer, and our parents never had to worry about us or chase us down. One of our favorite things to do was to play flashlight tag in the cemetary, lol!
