"Glamorous Illusions" Book Review {Giveaway}

I was supposed to have this up earlier, but when the Soldier leaves, my unwelcome friend Murphy always shows up. This week it was a crazy storm that sent water in the basement and a runaway cat. Pretty sure, if I had a mind to lose, you could probably find it with the cat.

If 'they' commit me, do you think they would let me bring my Kindle with? I might be able to catch up on my reading!

About the book:
The first book in the Grand Tour series, Glamorous Illusions will take readers on a pilgrimage through Europe-and straight into the soul.

It's the summer of 1913 and Cora Kensington's life on the family farm has taken a dark turn. After burying the only father she's ever known, she lost her beau in a tragic accident. Then a stranger comes to call. In one fateful afternoon, Cora discovers that her birth father is a copper king-a man who invites her to tour Europe with her new family. As she travels from England to France, Cora faces the hardships as well as the privileges of assuming the family name. And though now she knows more of her true identity, she soon discovers the journey is only beginning.

My thoughts:
I really enjoyed Glamorous Illusions. Lisa Bergren always tells a great story and you know she has done her research - I love feeling like I have stepped back in time with one of her books! Whether the gardens, the dress or the architecture, it is described so wonderfully and you feel like you are there.

This book was no exception to the other amazing books she has written. The characters became real as I was reading it, you could feel the tension between Cora and her siblings and the struggles she goes through, trying to figure out who she really is. Is there more between her and Will? Or will she end up with "Prince Charming" Pierre?

Lots of twists and turns and incredible scenes that will keep you immersed and guessing as you read.

My only complaint is that I now have to wait for the next book to find out what happens!

About the author:
Lisa Tawn Bergren is the best-selling, award-winning author of over 30 books, with more than 1.5 million copies sold. She just finished writing a Colorado historical trilogy (Breathe, Sing and Claim), and has begun a teen series called River of Time. (Note from me: The River of Time series is amazing!! It is YA, but I loved them just as much (more?) as the 14yo.)

Lisa's time is split between managing home base, writing (including a fair amount of travel writing), consulting and freelance editing (with a little speaking here and there). She's married to Tim, a liturgical sculptor, graphic designer and musician. They have three kids-Olivia (15), Emma (12) and Jack (7). All five of the Bergrens make their home in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

  1. If I could have afforded to go first class, you bet! I think it would be great to do a transatlantic voyage. Once I get my DH on board we'll do it!

  3. I don't think I would have gotten on an Ocean Liner ever again! I'm already uncomfortable being over water (bridge, ship, plane it doesn't matter) and after the Titanic I would have been terrified. Thanks for the chance to win this book by a fantastic author!
