Military Friday 2/18/11 and a few free books...

I wanted to jump in and say hello and join in the Friday Fill-in and Round Up before I go MIA for another week.

I survived a trip to Denver for training and am now packing to head to Texas for five days to take the oldest to visit colleges. Man I feel old!

I had a great time with my 'sisters' from all over the world. There is really no way to explain it to someone who isn't a part of it. I only wish we could get together more often than twice a year. I love you girls :)

If you are here for the Kindle freebies - there are a few free books that are new below and still some freebies from my last couple of posts here and here. (You can always like my facebook page to be notified as soon as I find them.) If you don't have a Kindle, you can download the free app for your iphone or PC by clicking on the banner at the bottom of the page. Also, please check to make sure they are free before downloading, as prices change frequently.

Don't miss my current contest for a copy of Lady in the Mist by Laurie Alice Eakes here

And now for the MilSpouse Friday Fill-In! Come on over to "Wife of a Sailor" to join in.

1) What is your favorite MilSpouse blog (not including Wife of a Sailor who we all love, or your own)?
submitted by moi!

My favorite (other than “Wife of a Sailor”!) is Witty Little Secret. She makes me laugh and I need that right now. Some days I swear we were separated at birth. It is good to know that we are not alone on this trip called MilSpouse life.

2) What are your favorite perks about your s/o being deployed (we all know there are perks)? submitted by Ramblings of a Marine Wife

Can’t really think of any, unless staying in my pjs all day counts. I almost jumped over the counter at the post office when the clerk started going on about all the benefits, like not having to pay federal tax. Yeah, like that is worth my husband being gone for 400 plus days and my 3yo asking if daddy is in heaven with God and Jesus. Deployments suck.

3) How long did you date your husband before getting engaged? Married? submitted by Utterly Chaotic

We dated about four months before he proposed and had been together almost a year when we got married. Yes, we were young and stupid. It is a miracle that we have been together 18 years

4) What do you think your husband would do if he wasn’t in the military? submitted by Adventures of M-Squared

In real life (Soldier is National Guard), he is a telcom contractor. However, they let everyone go before he went on orders last April. So who knows what he will do when he gets home.

5) If you could talk to the Secretary of Army what is one suggestion you would like to bring to their attention in order to improve the lives of military families?
submitted by My Life as His (Air Force) Wife

I think these year + long deployments are bad news. For Soldiers and their families. I know they have their reasons, but it still sucks. It isn’t healthy for relationships or kids.

And finally, this week's MilSpouse Weekly Round Up is hosted by The Whole FamDamily. Come on over and link up!

Have a great weekend!

Love,

  1. I think staying in PJs all day counts for something, but it doesn't exactly make up for having to answer questions like the one your three-year-old asked you. Heartbreaking. And then to have to deal with airhead postal clerks who know not of which they speak? Ugh!
