"When a Heart Stops" Book Review {Giveaway}

*Don’t miss out on your chance to win a copy of You Don’t Know Me by Susan May Warren*

When I was a little girl, my older sister would let me make me stay up late and watch scary movies with her. I remember lying awake the rest of the night, hearing every noise and jumping at every shadow.

I might not be that bad anymore, but when reading a Lynette Eason thriller, I have been known to double check the locks on the doors…

When a Heart Stops:   A killer's deadly game needs new players . . . but someone's about to change the rules.

As a medical examiner, Serena Hopkins is used to dealing with death. But that doesn't make it any easier when she's called to the eerie scene of a murder--especially when Serena realizes that she knows the victim. Nearly as unnerving is the presence of FBI agent Dominic Allen, her childhood crush.

As evidence mounts and points to a serial killer with disturbingly familiar methods, Serena and Dominic must work to find a pattern and stop the killings before the murderer strikes again. And when Serena's own life seems at stake, she must decide if the secret she has been keeping has put her next on the killer's hit list. Can she trust Dominic with the truth before it's too late?

My thoughts:
Lynette Eason has done it again. When a Heart Stops is part thriller, part romance and completely amazing!

I am the person who reads a book or watches a show and can tell you who did what before you are even half way through. But not with Lynette's books!  I get so frustrated when I know the killer is right there, but I can't quite put my finger on him (or her...). She keeps me second guessing right up until the end.

I also really enjoy that her female characters are strong women with lives and are not waiting for Mr. Right to come and make everything okay... I think that is a message that comes across way too often in a lot of books and not one I want my daughters to accept. (Alright, off my soapbox now...)

Poor Serena, someone is trying to kill her and the guy that shows up to help is her High School crush? Talk about awkward! Both her and Dominic are great, you know they are meant for each other, but everything around them is doing it's best to keep them apart, including an insane killer. Will they catch the bad guy before it's too late for romance?

Note: While this is a standalone novel, you won’t want to miss the first book in the Deadly Reunions series, When the Smoke Clears.

  1. I'm a lock checker all the time =) The basement door has to be locked at all times, I check the closet before I go to bed and all the blinds have to be closed (because if I can't see the crazies the crazies can't see me, right?)

  3. I do always make sure my doors are locked and blinds closed at night here in the city, but no, not just because I'm reading a scary book. Not even for a scary movie. Hope to win this book.

  5. I've been hearing a lot about this book. It sounds so interesting, I can't help but hope I win!

    To answer your question: when I read thrillers, I don't check the locks or make someone do it. But I occasionally glance at the windows and doors...and snuggle into my blankets (if I'm reading in the night) just to be sure and feel safe.
