"The Trouble With Cowboys" Book Review {Giveaway}

*I love giving away books, so don't miss my giveaway for a copy of Dee Henderson's Full Disclosure while you are here!*

If you have never been to small town Montana, you will want to visit via Denise Hunter's Big Sky Romance trilogy. Before you finish The Trouble With Cowboys, you will feel at home enough to kick off your boots and stay awhile!

About the book:

Only one pair of boots—and the cowboy wearing them—can get Annie out of the mess she’s in.

Annie Wilkerson is Moose Creek’s premiere horse trainer and equine columnist for Montana Living. Money is tight as she tries to put her kid-sister through college and provide for her young nephew. When Annie’s column is cancelled, she’s given first shot at a new lovelorn column—and she can’t afford to turn it down. Only problem is . . . Annie’s never been in love.

Always resourceful, she reluctantly strikes a deal with the town’s smooth-talking ladies’ man Dylan Taylor: She’ll work with his ailing horse, Braveheart, if he’ll help her answer the reader letters.

Working closely with Dylan is harder than Annie imagined, and she quickly realizes she may have misjudged him. But her unwavering conviction that cowboys are nothing but trouble has kept her heart safe for years. And she can’t risk getting hurt now.

The more Annie tries to control things, the more they fall apart. Her feelings are spinning out of control, and her sister’s antics are making life increasingly more difficult. Annie knows she needs to turn the reins over to God, but surrender has never come easily.

When Dylan reveals his feelings for her, Annie doesn’t know what to trust—her head or her heart. The trouble with this cowboy is that he might just be exactly what she needs.

My thoughts:
Since I grew up in small town Montana (complete with cowboys), this entire series was like going home for a visit. Before I had even gotten through the first chapter of The Trouble With Cowboys, I could picture myself in the town of Moose Creek, maybe even having a 'coke' at the Chuckwagon. Denise Hunter has an amazingly descriptive imagination and, between the setting and the dialogue, you can get lost in her stories.

I *may* have a slight issue with control, so I could really relate to Annie and her need to take care of everyone and everything. I loved Dylan and his Texas drawl and cowboy ways. Fun - yet real - characters make this book super enjoyable to read. I even caught myself laughing out loud a few times. However, don't be fooled by the cute story and flirting cowboy, woven throughout it is a great message of surrender and letting go. As a bonus, I especially enjoyed the snippets of Annie's columns at the beginning of each chapter. Such a great little detail that really added to the book for me.

Note: While this is a stand alone novel, I highly recommend the first two books in the Big Sky Romance series - A Cowboy's Touch and The Accidental Bride.

About the author:
Denise lives in Indiana with her husband Kevin and their three sons. In 1996, Denise began her first book, a Christian romance novel, writing while her children napped. Two years later it was published, and she’s been writing ever since. Her books often contain a strong romantic element, and her husband Kevin says he provides all her romantic material, but Denise insists a good imagination helps too!

"Full Disclosure" Review {Giveaway}

I *may* have been a little over zealous when signing up for book reviews for the fall, but I am having a blast getting to read all of the new books and then giving you a chance to win them - it wouldn't be as much fun if I couldn't share them with at least one lucky reader!

The latest winners have been announced - Elizabeth has won a copy of Jody Hedlund's Unending Devotion and Karen has won a copy of Sarah Sundin's With Every Letter. Please check your email for further instructions and thanks so much to everyone who entered!

Today seems to be a big day for book releases (in fact, tomorrow I will start another giveaway for Denise Hunter's The Trouble With Cowboys), besides Full Disclosure by Dee Henderson, Liz Curtis Higgs' newest book is also out today. I wasn't able to get an advance copy, so I will be downloading A Wreath of Snow. I can't wait to get started!

My very first Dee Henderson book was True Devotion (I am a sucker for a man in uniform...) and I have been hooked ever since. Five years was a long time to wait for her next book, but it was so worth it!

About the book:

Ann Silver is a cop’s cop. As the Midwest Homicide Investigator, she is called in to help on the worst of the cases, looking for answers to murder. Hers is one of the most trusted investigative positions in the Midwest.

Paul Falcon is the FBI’s top murder cop. If the victim carried a federal badge or had a security clearance, odds are good he sees the case file or his guys work the murder.

Their lives intersect when Ann arrives to pass a case off her desk and onto his. A car wreck and a suspicious death offer a lead on a hired shooter he is tracking. Paul isn’t expecting to meet someone, the kind that goes on the personal side of the ledger, but Ann Silver has his attention.

The better he gets to know her, the more he realizes her job barely scratches the surface of who she is. She knows spies and soldiers and U.S. Marshals, and has written books about them. She is friends with the former Vice President. People with good reason to be cautious about who they let into their lives deeply trust her. Paul wonders just what secrets Ann is keeping, until she shows him the John Doe Killer case file, and he starts to realize just who this lady he is falling in love with really is . . .

My thoughts:
I received my 'advance' copy of Full Disclosure before I left for MOPS Convention and decided that I would read it on the plane, big mistake! I didn't have enough time to finish it and once I got to Dallas, I hit the ground running. All I could think about all week was, "what is going to happen next?!" It drove me crazy! I did manage to finish it on the flight back. The poor guy next to me was kept rudely awake by my light and even commented on how fast I was reading.

This was an amazing book! I know I say that a lot, but wow! Dee is an incredible author, so I didn't expect anything less, but she really out did herself this time. Full Disclosure is not 'just' a romance and it's not 'just' a thriller, I love how it is a story of two individuals who mesh their stories into one. There are so many twists and turns while you discover who Ann and Paul really are. I don't know how she can build a story with so many layers that it keeps you guessing the entire time. I loved every moment. Definitely a 5 star book!

About the author:

Dee Henderson is the bestselling, award-winning author of 15 previous novels, including the acclaimed O’Malley series and Uncommon Heroes series. She is a lifelong resident of Illinois.
